Cretaceous Fossils Discovered in Fusui Guangxi,South China

NANNING - Archaeologists have discovered a group of Cretaceous fossils in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, including dinosaur fossils.

They were found at the Napai Basin in Fusui county, where two complete dinosaur fossils were unearthed in 2001, said Huang Minzhi, head of the local land resources bureau. A group of Chinese and foreign paleontologists started excavation at the site about one week ago, he said.

The basin covers an area of about 150 square km and is one of the few places in Asia rich in fossils from the early Cretaceous period. Archaeologists have found a large number of dinosaur fossils in the area since 1973.

"The latest discovery will greatly contribute to research into the shape, distribution and evolution of dinosaurs," Huang said.
