17 Missing Campers Found in Guangxi, South China

NANNING - Rescuers in South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region found 17 tourists on Wednesday afternoon who had lost contact while camping in a nature reserve, local authorities announced.

The missing tourists were found at about 4:30 pm, according to the rescuers.

The fire brigade of Jinxiu county received a report about the missing campers at around 8:20 pm Monday. The campers, mostly from the cities of Liuzhou and Hechi, arrived at the Changtanhe nature reserve on Oct 2.

One of the campers called his wife at 11:56 am Monday saying that they were trapped at the camping site after the water level of a river suddenly rose and were in need of rescue.

The county had been battered by rainstorms since Typhoon Mujigae landed in southern China on Sunday. Rising river and rugged mountain roads have added difficulties for the rescue, authorities said.
