Better Housing Built for Baiku Yao in Hechi Guangxi

Thanks to a government initiative aimed at proving better housing to people in Celing village in Hechi's Jinchengjiang district, 50 families have been rehoused in upgraded accommodation.

In the past two years, more than 100 houses have been built in the first phase of the development, creating a new community particularly for the Baiku Yao ethnic group which has moved in from surrounding areas.

Each 80-square-meter two-story house has been constructed to fit in with the local style, and surround a central public square equipped with playgrounds, gardens, and leisure and sports facilities.

"I've been dreamed of living in such a nice house my whole life, and now my dream comes true", said Li Mingfu, a Baiku Yao villager. "The community is near to the center of the township, so it's convenient for us to find some part-time jobs when the farming season finishes."

According to a spoke person from the Jinchengjiang development and reform bureau, the total project will cost 48 million yuan ($6.97 million), and cover an area of 5 hectares.

With the first phase being completed in September 2015, the second phase is scheduled to finish ready for people to move in in June this year.
