Longsheng Longji Facts

Geographic Position
Longsheng is situated at the northeast part of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, under the administration of Guilin City. It's an area with high densities of Yao and Zhuang people (two of the ethnic nationalities in China). In addition, it is home to the famous Longji terrace built along the slope winding from the riverside up to the Longji mountain top.


Climate
Longsheng has a subtropical monsoon climate, no intense heat in summer, no severe winter. December to February is the time with minimum temperature of the year. July and August are the months of maximum temperatures with daily average temperatures up to 26℃.

TransportLongsheng is 89 kilometers away from Guilin. It is a 2-3 hours ride by bus from Guilin to Longsheng County Bus Station. Once in the county, there are convenient transportations to every scenic resort. But still, if you want to see the grand terraces, you have to climb on feet.


Scenic Spots
The Longji Terraces (The Dragon's Backbone Terraces), the most famous resort in Longsheng, with a history of 700 years, are a magnificent demonstration of man working in harmony with the landscape. It is famous for the excessively large number of terraced rice paddy fields on its mountain, which have created an intricate pattern on the hillsides. Longsheng HotSpring Resort with its charming scenery and the hot spring baths combine to make the traveler's stay there most enjoyable.


Festivals
As Longsheng is a county with several ethnic minorities live in concentrated, there are different festivals for the minorities respectively. The most famous is the Zhuang's Folk Song Festival (each March 3), Zhuang people would gather to the hillside to sing the folk songs for celebration. Another one is the Yao's Red Clothes Festival (each March 15 or April 8). During which time, Yao people in Longsheng Rice Terraces will dress up to celebrate Red Clothes Festival. Just like some other festivals, these festivals serve as an ideal chance for bachelors to find their sweetheart. Besides, there are some other festivals in Longsheng like Dong's Fireworks Festival, Miao's Drum Festival, Longji Rape Festival, etc.


Food
There are many small restaurants in the village where you can rest, refresh and enjoy country style Chinese food. One of the most popular meals for the local people is the bamboo rice. The bamboo tube is sealed and placed on the fire to cook with rice along with some meats, vegetables and spices stuffed inside. What's more, the travelers can have a taste of the delicious local rice wine.
